Lupus is known to be severe in Black and Hispanic populations, but in the United States and Europe, there are not many studies with strong representation in these groups. This session looks to explain and explore lupus in multiple African countries, showcasing experts in rheumatology from regions that have previously not been included in larger meetings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore immunologic and genetic reasons for the severe disease phenotypes in lupus patients in Africa.
  • Describe differences and similarities in clinical features between African cohorts and other ethnic groups or populations.
  • Review the status of current research in lupus and describe innovative research developments that bridge the research gap.
