This session will outline the need for educators to assess medical trainees’ skills addressing social and structural determinants of health during patient care. Presenters will explain the challenges to effective assessment in this domain and will discuss available resources that educators can use to integrate social and structural competence into established assessment programs, highlighting the materials’ strengths and shortcomings. Speakers will share examples of methods assessing trainees' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in social and structural competency and will conclude with a discussion of next steps needed to advance trainee assessment of social and structural competency.
