Funding a career as a medical educator is challenging. Unlike our colleagues in clinical and basic science research, established pathways to fund a career in medical education through increasingly larger grants do not exist. At the same time, getting recognized and paid for teaching at the medical school and residency levels can be difficult. In this session, we will discuss how to leverage Foundation grants, such as those from the Rheumatology Research Foundation and Arthritis Foundation, to fund medical education projects. We will provide strategies and recommendations for obtaining paid positions within undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. Lastly, we will discuss other creative ways of funding medical education projects, such as by collaborating with others to fund implementation grants that have an educational component within them.
