Dysregulated cell death and exposure of self-antigens is essential in development of autoimmunity. Here we will highlight recent advances in the field of cell death and discuss novel forms of cell death, including ferroptosis, necrosis, and pyroptosis, and their role in causing inflammation and exposing disease-relevant autoantigens.
