Most individuals with rheumatic diseases and conditions experience chronic pain and other symptoms that greatly impact their physical and emotional well-being. As such, effective strategies for pain self-management are required to maximize functional capacity and quality of life. Behavioral self-management has evolved to include the utilization of mobile health technology, as well as explorations into the use of highly innovative treatments such as virtual reality (VR). This session will explore the evidence for pain self-management, trends in delivery and access, and promising directions for pain self-management in the future. Topics will include how books can leverage technology to enhance learning and practice, interventions on the go and the advent of mHealth programs, the promise of just-in-time-adaptive-interventions, and novel technologies such as VR and beyond.
