Major problems in treating autoimmune diseases are the toxicity of immunomodulatory therapies and the biological obstacles inherent in delivering drugs to specific tissues. In this session, attendees will learn how new drug design using biomaterials is circumventing these problems and allowing targeted drug delivery by biodegradable materials.

  • Recognize that biomaterials can be used to decrease drug toxicity.
  • Understand how biomaterials are being designed for drug delivery.
  • Learn how targeted delivery of nanoparticles can modulate immune responses in autoimmune diseases.
