Dr. de Paiva is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She received her M.D. degree from the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and her Ph.D. from the University of Sao Paulo, Ribeirao Preto. Her research interests include dry eye, ocular surface diseases, animal models of Sjögren syndrome, microbiome, and aging. The primary objectives of her research are to investigate the pathogenesis of dry eye-related diseases with the ultimate goal of improving the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of dry eye. Her laboratory focuses on epithelial immune interactions, with an emphasis on the microbiome and aging.
