Daniel Battafarano, DO graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. He completed Internal Medicine Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in 1987 then Adult Rheumatology Fellowship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO, in 1992. He is an Adjoint Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health-San Antonio and a Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University. Doctor Battafarano served 21 years on active duty retiring as a Colonel followed by 15 years as civilian Chairman of the Rheumatology Division at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). He has served in multiple graduate medical education (GME) leadership roles. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Battafarano practiced rheumatology part-time for CommuniCare Health Centers in San Antonio seeing underserved patients from 2019-2022. He continues teaching, medical missions, and writing humanities essays. Doctor Dan Battafarano currently serves as Chair, ACR Workforce Solutions Committee and previously served on the ACR Board of Directors. He has been recognized with numerous teaching awards, Best Doctors in America, The Legion of Merit Medal, Master of the American College of Physicians (MACP) and as a Master of the American College of Rheumatology (MACR).
