Dr. Bakewell trained at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington for medical school, residency in internal medicine, followed by fellowship in rheumatology. Following training, she remained for several years in Seattle where she practiced at both the Veterans Affairs Administration as well as with Dr. Philip Mease at Swedish Rheumatology Associates. She now practices at Intermountain HealthCare, a large multispecialty not-for-profit organization in Salt Lake City, Utah. She practices general adult rheumatology, with a focus on inflammatory arthritis and musculoskeletal ultrasound. She participates as faculty in multiple CME courses across the US, volunteers as USSONAR mentor, focused on the education of rheumatologists in the use of ultrasound, and is active in imaging based research and publication.
