Dr. Erica Schmitt is an Instructor of Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Schmitt earned her MD and PhD degrees at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She subsequently completed her pediatric residency and rheumatology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where she was part of the Pediatric Physician Scientist Training Program. After completion of the program, she joined the Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology division at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Schmittâs research interests are in the genetics of immune-mediated diseases and the fundamental mechanisms of immune cell activation, immune dysregulation, and immunological tolerance. Dr. Schmitt has a special interest in understanding the immunological mechanisms of disease in humans and mice with STAT3 gain-of-function syndrome, a monogenic primary immune regulatory disorder.
