Dr. Brownfield is a Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. After graduating with a BS from the College of William and Mary, She received her M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia, and completed an Internal Medicine residency at the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine/North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Her first faculty role was with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Since 1997, she has been a faculty member at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Dr. Brownfield is a long standing member of the Society of General Internal Medicine and has served on numerous SGIM committees, and as the president of this group’s southern region. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a practicing General Internist and a clinician-educator.
She currently serves as the Director of Strategic Leadership at MUSC and is charged with developing leadership culture for the institution. Dr. Brownfield is married to fellow General Internist and MUSC faculty member, Dr. Ben Clyburn, and they share their lives with five lovely and fascinating daughters.
