Dr. Nowling is an Associate Professor in the Rheumatology Division at the Medical School of South Carolina. She is a cellular and molecular biologist by training. Her lab couples in vitro cellular and molecular studies using immortalized and primary cells to outcomes in vivo using lupus prone mouse strains, with translational relevance to human disease using primary human cells and patient samples. Current studies in Dr. Nowling's lab are focused on identifying urine biomarkers in lupus nephritis and the cellular and molecular mechanisms through which glycosphingolipid metabolism modulates the earliest events in the initiation and progression of lupus nephritis.
