Jiri Vencovsky is the past President of the Czech Society for Rheumatology. He received his MD from the Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1980. He specialized in internal medicine, rheumatology and medical immunology while working in the Institute of Rheumatology in Prague. He is Vice-Director of the Institute and since 1993 has been the Head of both the Research and Clinical Laboratory Departments. He became Associate Professor at Charles University in 1996 and full Professor of Medicine in 2002.
Professor Vencovsky has been the Editor of the journal Czech Rheumatology since 1998 and is a member of the editorial board for six scientific journals. From 2002 until 2005, he was a member of the Scientific Committee of EULAR; abstract chair for EULAR congress in 2005, and since 2002 has been an international fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. He served for 6 years as a treasurer for the Foundation for Research in Rheumatology (FOREUM) and is currently a member of Board of Trustees of FOREUM.
His research interests include inflammatory idiopathic myopathies, autoantibodies in rheumatic diseases and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. He has published around 400 scientific papers, reviews and book chapters and has been invited to speak at EULAR and ACR Annual Congresses and other international meetings.
