During my master’s studies at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, I investigated the role of oncogene c-Myb in leukemogenesis. I obtained my PhD in 2006 at the Charles University in Prague based on research at the Danish Cancer Society Research Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. My project focused on the repair of DNA double-strand breaks. I also made substantial contribution to a highly cited paper published in Nature, which was a landmark study linking the DNA damage response to tumorigenesis. During my postdoctoral research at the London Research Institute, Cancer Research UK, United Kingdom, I studied the role of Casein Kinase 2 in the DNA damage response and I discovered a novel phospho-binding domain PIH-N and established its role in the DNA damage response. In 2016, I received Sir Henry Dale Wellcome Trust Fellowship and established my research group at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom. Our research focused on identification of novel phosphorylation-regulated interactions between DNA damage response factors and other cellular proteins and characterisation of their functional relevance in the DNA damage response. In 2022 I moved to the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Prague, Czech Republic. I work on project focusing on development of cGAS inhibitors which can be used for treatment of autoimmune diseases with increased activation of cGAS-STING pathway such as lupus erythematosus and Parkinson’s disease.
