Dr. Rubin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University and a clinical immunology fellowship at Hahnemann University. Later, his MPH degree was obtained from University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Dr. Rubin then served as Chief of Rheumatology, and Professor of Medicine (with tenure) at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas for over 20 years, educating literally thousands of students in rheumatology and immunology. He also started the rheumatology fellowship at UNTHSC. He held many key administrative positions at the medical school while also serving as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous medical publications. Dr. Rubin moved to Detroit, Michigan in 2010 to serve as Chief of Rheumatology at Henry Ford Hospital and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. At Henry Ford Hospital he restarted their rheumatology fellowship and combined it with Wayne State University to educate four fellows annually. His clinical and research interests focused primarily on SLE, RA, and vasculitis. Over the course of his career he has educated over two dozen rheumatology fellows who now are engaged in clinical practice and academic careers throughout the world. In 2018, Dr. Rubin retired from clinical practice to join GlaxoSmithKline.
