Federico Díaz-Gonzalez has led the Rheumatology department at University Hospital de Canarias in Tenerife since 2019. Since 2011, Federico has been professor of medicine at the University of La Laguna. Federico has been the Director of the Research Unit for the Spanish Society of Rheumatology since 2012 where his responsibilities include designing and executing epidemiological research projects, managing large databases, and developing clinical practice guidelines for doctors and patients.
Federico received his Medical degree from the University of La Laguna (ULL) in 1986. In 1991, he completed his Rheumatology specialization at the Hospital Universitario de La Princesa in Madrid.
From 1991 to 1994, Federico was staff of the Rheumatology department at the same hospital. In 1994, Federico got a PhD from the University Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) with Cum Laude honours. From 1994 to 1995, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Vascular Biology at Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA. In the Dr. M. H. Ginsberg´s lab. During this time, he studied integrins´ function
He led 10 research projects in biomedicine as part of the national R&D programme.
Areas of interest involve the regulation of white blood extravasation during an inflammatory response, the function of B-cells in rheumatoid arthritis, the correlation between obesity and inflammation, and the effectiveness of targeted therapy for rheumatic diseases in real-world settings.
