Since my rheumatology fellowship years, I specialized in the care of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). My work on SLE T cells in particular led to identification of key molecules for SLE pathophysiology, namely NFAT, IL-23 and STAT3. My clinical work has similarly focused on caring for patients with SLE and related disorders. To this end, I organized the BIDMC Lupus Center with a lupus patient cohort of more than 250 patients, created and maintaining a large bio-specimen (including serum, mRNA and DNA) repository. Stemming out of the educational activities tied to the Lupus Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), I became the program director for the rheumatology training program. I oversaw the overhaul of the nascent training program, by strengthening both clinical training and scholarly activity.
