This session will highlight the cutting-edge research methodologies being used in the areas of phenotyping and precision medicine in 23 different NIAMS-funded Core Centers for Clinical Research. This broad perspective of the state of the science in these areas will cover the logistics of the analytical approaches while highlighting their tight alignment with the clinical considerations provided by experts in their substantive areas. In addition to the presentations on innovative methodologies and their applications to clinical research, the presenters will also discuss critically important issues related to logistics, such as data management, harmonization, and management of missing data. Finally, presenters will address multiple models of a successful "marriage" (relationship/interaction/collaboration) between a methodologist (statistician/informatician) and clinical investigator, including how to manage and meet expectations for both parties.
