David S. Wu earned a BA in English from Yale University and an MD from the Baylor College of Medicine. He completed Internal Medicine residency and Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship at the University of Washington. He worked as a general internist then served as Senior Medical Director for a hospice in Maryland. In 2016, Dr. Wu joined Johns Hopkins School of Medicine faculty to serve as Director of the Palliative Care Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. During his tenure, the program has dramatically extended its clinical and educational reach. He has published papers on his work designing and implementing a narrative approach to goals of care communication training, the 3-Act Model, and is leading or co-investigator on multiple funded projects in the areas of communication, quality improvement, clinical excellence, community codesign, and health equity. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and is an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Recent honors include the Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar Leadership Award, the Circle of Life Award from the American Hospital Association, and Innovations in Clinical Care Award from Johns Hopkins Medicine.
