Billions of dollars are invested globally in health research, but the knowledge generated is unlikely to translate into health benefits if it is not being used. Implementing effective complex interventions (i.e., integrating an evidence-based exercise program for preventing falls in arthritis care) is challenging because it involves multiple interacting components with different characteristics (e.g., program, actors, healthcare facility). Successful implementation requires buy in from clinicians, patients, and healthcare leadership, fits seamlessly with current practice, and produces tangible benefits to patient care and outcomes. In this session, panelists will discuss the use of a design-thinking approach to develop and test strategies for implementing effective complex interventions in different models of care.
