This session will review pertinent anatomy and provocative examination maneuvers of the hip to identify inflammatory arthritis and enthesitis manifestations versus mechanical/degenerative injuries. The use of diagnostic ultrasonography in the evaluation of the hip to detect effusions, inflammatory and crystalline arthritides, enthesitis, osteoarthritis, and mechanical injuries will be illustrated.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe physical examination maneuvers to diagnose hip conditions
  • Recognize normal anatomy and sonoanatomy of the hip
  • Identify abnormal sonographic findings and learn to distinguish inflammatory versus mechanical conditions
