Cardio-rheumatology from the cardiology perspective is a new area. This session will showcase two young investigators who have been working closely with rheumatologists and have been involved in both the care and research of rheumatic conditions. Encouraging the growth of this field will strengthen partnerships with cardiology to improve the care of rheumatic disease patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe cardiovascular risk factors that rheumatologists can consider when initiating targeted synthetic/biologic DMARD therapy in patients with inflammatory arthritis.
  • Discuss clinically available tools, e.g., imaging modalities, that can aid in cardiovascular risk assessment in inflammatory arthritis.
  • Recognize the growing field of cardio-rheumatology and the benefits of interdisciplinary clinics to improve care.
