Dr. Schwartz received a B.A. in Biochemistry and French (cum laude) from Rice University in 2001, and an MD from Wake Forest in 2007 (Alpha Omega Alpha). She completed an Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), followed by Rheumatology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a postdoctoral fellow, she investigated the T helper 9 transcriptional and epigenomic program in the lab of Dr. John O’Shea. She also studied immune dysregulatory diseases including haploinsufficiency of A20 (HA20), under the mentorship of Drs. Daniel Kastner and Joshua Milner. Dr. Schwartz was recruited to the University of Pittsburgh as an Assistant Professor in 2022. Her group studies and manages complex inborn errors of immunity through the IDDAT program, including a large cohort of HA20 patients. Her lab also investigates the regulation and roles of interleukin 9 and T helper 9 cells in rheumatic diseases.
