Joseph Cantrell is the Director of State Affairs and Community Relations for the American College of Rheumatology. The ACR represents over 9,500 rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals in the United States and across the world. As a leading advocate for rheumatology, the ACR works with decision makers in Washington, D.C. and in states around the nation to improve policy outcomes. The ACR's advocacy focuses on improving access to rheumatologists and rheumatologic care, improving the practice climate for rheumatologists, enhancing patient access to treatments, and increasing public funding for medical research. RheumPAC, the ACR's non-partisan political action committee, helps support and elect pro-rheumatology candidates to Congress.
In his current role, Joseph ensures that the interests of ACR members and their patients are represented in state legislation and policy. Prior to coming to the ACR he served as the Director of Advocacy and Policy for Mental Health America of Georgia, where he managed state advocacy efforts. He also served as a legal aid to Georgia Senate Judiciary Committee and worked in the office of Georgia Senate Minority Leader. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of West Georgia and his JD from the Georgia State University College of Law.
