Dr. Plantinga’s research focuses on multidisciplinary, patient-centered approaches to improving the quality of care among underserved patients with chronic diseases, including patients with chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease, and lupus. She currently leads federally funded studies focused on assessment of aging and the burden of geriatric syndromes (particularly, functional impairment) in the lupus population and examination of the experiences of the dialysis workforce.
Dr. Plantinga received a PhD in Epidemiology from Emory University and a ScM in biostatistics from Johns Hopkins University. She is a Senior Board Member for BMC Nephrology and serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.
